Cooperation Between Dassault Systemes & ITRI
ITRI and French software company Dassault Systemes in June signed an MoU on cooperation on developing IoT and future factories, with specific areas including additive manufacturing and smart cities technologies. ITRI Executive Vice President Pei-Zen Chang and Dassault Systemes Senior Executive Vice President Bertrand Sicot signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. Dr. Chang is confident that the MoU between ITRI and Dassault Systemes not only marks a milestone in cooperation in innovation between Taiwan and France, but also creates opportunities for hardware and software integration. Mr. Sicot emphasized that Dassault Systemes has been a pioneer in 3D software since it was founded in 1981, and all of the world’s aircraft manufacturers utilize its solutions, while over 90% of the globe’s major automobile makers also are its clients. He hopes this cooperation will take advantage of ITRI’s expertise in state-of-the-art innovation-oriented R&D, enabling the two sides to jointly develop high added-value technologies, products, and services.

MoU Inked with Thailand’s NFI
Responding to the government’s New Southbound Policy, ITRI and Thailand’s National Food Institute (NFI) on June 21 inked an MoU on developing smart manufacturing of food products in Thailand. Signed by Dr. Jwu-Sheng Hu, General Director of ITRI’s Mechanical and Mechatronics Systems Research Laboratories, and Mr. Yongvuf Saovapruk, NFI President, the MoU paves the way for the integration of Taiwan’s technological strengths with Thailand’s abundant resources to develop business opportunities in smart manufacturing of foods. Both sides will also cooperate in the training of talent. Dr. Hu remarked that ITRI’s industrial IoT and cyber-physical integration technologies have assisted many local manufacturers in boosting their capacity and enhancing supply chain production efficiency. ITRI will encourage Taiwan companies to participate in this project with Thailand, helping them gain a foothold in the Thai market. Dr. Sean S.H. Wang, ITRI International Center General Director, stated that ITRI hopes to play a role in promoting R&D and business cooperation between industrial sectors. The cooperation with NFI would enhance the international competitiveness of the smart manufacturing of both Taiwanese and Thai food products, he stated. Mr. Saovapruk also stressed that his organization is striving to promote R&D that will boost the value of Thailand’s food industry.

Oxford Instruments Expands R&D Base at ITRI
Oxford Instruments announced that it will increase personnel at its R&D base located at ITRI in Taiwan and leverage ITRI’s research capacities to co-develop innovative technologies. In the future, the cooperation will be expanded to the development of MEMS and semiconductor optoelectronic components and equipment technology. ITRI Vice President Jia-Ruey Duann remarked that ITRI and Oxford Instruments first signed an MoU on cooperation in 2006. The expanding research capacities under the latest agreement will focus on emerging technologies in the fields of micro-LED and silicon photonics. Mr. Jaufurally commented that Oxford Instruments is interested in expanding its collaboration with ITRI and Taiwan industry. The company, he said, will jointly hold precision testing/analysis training courses with ITRI, making ITRI an important base for Oxford Instruments in the Asia-Pacific in training engineering R&D personnel. Ms. Nettleton, Representative of the British Office Taipei, said the British government looks quite favorably on Oxford Instruments’ expanded cooperation with ITRI and will actively assist British enterprises and startups in engaging in R&D collaboration in Taiwan.
