ITRI and RAS Expand Cooperation

ITRI and the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) on November 14 signed a memorandum of cooperation that will promote innovation-oriented R&D between Taiwan and Russia. The MoU was signed on behalf of the two institutions by ITRI Executive Vice President Pei-Zen Chang and RAS Vice President and Academician Andrey V. Adrianov. In the future, the two sides will engage in cooperation in materials science, green energy, information communications, machinery, and biomedicine. This mutually beneficial partnership that will focus on innovative applications is expected to add depth and broaden cooperation in science and technology R&D.

The RAS was founded in 1724 and has a status similar to that of Taiwan’s Academia Sinica. It is an R&D institution on a national level and has particularly outstanding research achievements in nanotechnology, computer science, and artificial intelligence. ITRI’s Dr. Chang commented that the RAS is renowned for its excellent basic scientific research. ITRI has long promoted a partnership between the two with the hope of leveraging its basic R&D capacities to assist in transferring, obtaining, or jointly developing advanced technology needed by the domestic industrial and research communities, which would enhance Taiwan’s industrial technology capabilities, he said.

RAS’s Dr. Adrianov emphasized that the signing of this agreement not only continues the longstanding close cooperative relationship between the two sides, but also will underpin the expansion of the scope of cooperation to fields such as green energy, biomedicine, and textiles. This, he said, will hasten the upgrading of bilateral R&D abilities and capacities.

ITRI and RAS are important technology research institutions in Taiwan and Russia, which will continue to strengthen their collaboration and serve pivotal roles in identifying the needs of industry and future technology development trends. The interaction between the two sides will maximize the impact of the industrial technology cooperation platform and enhance the innovation-oriented economies of Taiwan and Russia.
