Diverse AI Applications for Industry Needs

ITRI has been developing a range of AI solutions to address challenges across various sectors, such as leak detection, EV charging, energy management, and cybersecurity. Its AI-powered innovations recognized at this year’s Edison Awards include Smart Aqua Leak Finder, Fleetchargo, Janus: AI-Driven Cybersecurity Gatekeeper, and Adaptive Cold Energy Management System.

The gold winner Smart Aqua Leak Finder is a portable device that utilizes AI-driven acoustic technology and GPS mapping to detect underground pipe water leaks in three seconds with 98% accuracy. Such a highly precise identification rate is achieved by a smart acoustic recognition model, which owns 210,000 data points accumulated from the audio that is collected at pipeline networks. By minimizing repair time and water loss, the device offers an innovative solution to overcome global water scarcity. Its fast, non-invasive detection also helps avoid unnecessary excavation and preserve historic infrastructure.

Using AI, Smart Aqua Leak Finder provides accurate detection of pipe leaks and instant data reports through a cloud-based platform.

The Adaptive Cold Energy Management System, a bronze winner, optimizes energy use in commercial sites like wholesale stores and supermarkets. By leveraging deep reinforcement learning (DRL), it adapts to environmental conditions to enhance energy efficiency, reducing energy consumption by 15% to 20%. With big data analytics, the system calculates peak and off-peak hours and assesses daily number of customers, thereby adjusting operational parameters in advance. It also helps stabilize the power grid by adjusting refrigeration equipment power and enabling pre-cooling during demand response events.
