OLED & LED Innovations for Smart Lighting

ITRI showcased OLED & LED innovations at TILS 2017.

ITRI has been striving to develop innovative LED and OLED solutions to serve a variety of needs for smart lighting. Innovations such as FOLED Light Engine, Adjustable Spectrum LED Lighting, LED Real Time Location Service, Multi-Chip/Multi-Color LED Technology, High-Power Lamp, and Flicker-Free Power Supply made their debut at the 2017 Taiwan International Lighting Show (TILS). By creating diverse values for smart lighting technologies, ITRI helps industries expand new markets. Now let’s take a look at these innovative technologies and applications.

FOLED Light Engine

FOLED Light Engine

The FOLED light engine technology shows thin, flat, sun-like and flexible features. FOLED enables great color accuracy even when bent into a circle shape. Conventional OLEDs used to be primarily developed with glass substrates; ITRI’s breakthrough FOLED uses flexible substrate technology, weighs only 8 grams, and features a thickness of less than 0.6 mm. This technology provides widespread applications in the commercial, home, and automobile sectors, and is creating a variety of application models for smart lighting solutions.

Adjustable Spectrum LED Lighting

The Adjustable Spectrum LED Lighting is an advance beyond conventional parameters such as CRI and CCT for lighting control and can deliver precise human-centric lighting that has high color liking and healthcare benefits. This lighting system includes a multi-chip multi-color LED module with wide color space (>70% CIE 1931 color space chromaticity), and the spectrum control technology to find and mix different ratios of LED wavelengths to provide optimal illumination for a wide range of applications from general lighting to specialty lighting. For example, it provides white light with the same color temperature as seen by the eye, but the ratio of red, blue and green light is in fact different, and therefore physiological stimuli are not the same. This consequently impacts the biological rhythm of people unwittingly.

LED Real Time Location Service

LED Real Time Location Service

The LED Real Time Location Service takes advantage of LED light sources to enable it to provide related information on an illuminated item with highly accurate positioning within 10 centimeters. This technology has applications in smart retailers, museums, hospitals, and any other fields where accurate positioning for people or machines and high security in data transmission is needed. ITRI’s system not only offers modularized transceivers and receivers which are compatible with existing LED lighting fixtures of various brands in the marketplace, but also includes comprehensive data mining and analytics software, thereby helping manufacturers add value to their products.

Halo Garden (with Multi-Chip/Multi-Color LED Technology)

Halo Garden (with Multi-Chip/Multi-Color LED Technology)

The Halo Garden is an intelligent planting pot. It links to an intelligent gardener system via WiFi to receive planting requirements, making planting fun and easy. The cultivation parameters are kept in the cloud and can be downloaded to the Halo Garden for automatic irrigation, which facilitates a healthy growing environment. Multi-chip/Multi-color LED plant growth lights provide the dynamics of tailoring a specific spectrum for plant growth, freeing plant lovers from worrying about plant maintenance.

500W High-Power Outdoor LED Lamp

ITRI’s 500 W high-power outdoor LED lamp features high performance cooling technology and can be made into light and thin modules perfect for arenas, exhibition halls, and other large-sized outdoor fields. Varied lighting effects can be included in the production process to create an entertaining and interactive atmosphere.

Highly Efficient Flicker-Free Power Supply

The highly efficient flicker-free power supply significantly reduces the size and power consumption of small fixtures, and alleviates eye fatigue, thus creating a healthier and more comfortable lighting environment.
