Matthew Miau, Chairman of MiTAC-SYNNEX Group.
Matthew Miau, Chairman of MiTAC-SYNNEX Group, is a pioneer of Taiwan’s information technology industry. His commitment towards the Group’s reform for over 40 years successfully transformed the Group into an international IT corporation with over 40 affiliate companies worldwide. These affiliates are quite diverse, spanning multiple fields such as IT R&D and manufacturing, system integration, consumer electronics, and many others. MiTAC-SYNNEX Group’s subsidiaries have all established their international presence. Synnex Corp. is the third largest IT product channel company in the world; Concentrix is among the world’s top five BTO/CRM companies; Synnex Technology International Corp. is the biggest 3C product channel company in the Asia Pacific region.
Earlier in his career, Miau worked for Intel and participated in the 8080 microprocessor design team. Noticing Taiwan’s lack of computer manufacturing technology, he decided to move back from the United States in 1976 to join Taiwan’s very first computer company, MiTAC. He introduced Intel’s microprocessor and participated in the planning of Hsinchu Science Park, establishing a solid foundation for the future development of PCs in Taiwan.
Miau has a sharp insight into R&D and the global layout. His ability to analyze trends and seize opportunities led to global logistics management, a completely new business operation scheme at that time. Having a thorough manufacturing, sales and logistics structure, Miau enables both MiTAC-SYNNEX Group and its suppliers to enhance their digital ability. Furthermore, Miau is a strong negotiator, who actively meets with other leaders within the industry to discuss joint ventures and form strategic alliances. Under his leadership, MiTAC established a strong business position covering multiple fields from IT to petrochemical and food sectors.
Other than business operation, Miau is even more concerned about Taiwan’s technological development. He devoted his expertise in assisting information and communications systems infrastructure development in positions such as the convener of the advisory committee of National Information Infrastructure (NII), the Initiative for the Adoption of e-Business (iAeB), and the National Information and Communication Initiative (NICI).
