Yue-Teh Jang Fosters Medical Device Innovation

Dr. Yue-Teh Jang, Chairman and CEO of Medeon Biodesign, is dedicated to the R&D of cardiac catheterization, intravascular ultrasound, and vascular closure devices, and has made significant contributions to the medical device industry. He used to be a partner with Vertical Group, and was the founder and CEO of Integrated Vascular Systems and Ensure Medical. He also participated in many other medical ventures, leading several successful technology licensing and acquisition projects involving high-end medical device companies.

Dr. Jang is experienced in the industrialization of high-end medical devices. In 2012, he formed the company Medeon Biodesign in cooperation with Center Laboratories and Taiwan Global Biofund. Medeon Biodesign is Taiwan’s first innovative company focusing on the R&D of minimally invasive high-end medical devices. It gave birth to Taiwan’s innovative medical device industry, providing the opportunity for the industry to connect with the world.

Within five years Medeon Biodesign has flourished with fruitful results. Two laparoscopic products and one orthopedic device were certified by the FDA. In 2018, the company even licensed a self-developed product to one of the world’s top five cardiovascular equipment manufacturers, Terumo, setting a precedent for a Taiwanese company to license its innovative medical device to an international powerhouse.

Dr. Jang has been a consistent contributor to Taiwan’s biotechnology development. He served as an advisor at ITRI’s Biomedical Technology and Device Research Laboratories and committee member of ITRI’s Advanced Research Advisory Committee (ARAC). He also served as committee member for the Executive Yuan’s Bio Taiwan Committee (BTC), providing his expertise towards the government’s investment plans, biomedical park planning, industry development strategies and talent cultivation strategies. Dr. Jang is also one of the promoters of the Stanford-Taiwan Biomedical Fellowship Program. So far, the program has successfully assisted ten new startups, marking a significant contribution towards promoting Taiwan’s biomedical industry.
